Santa Clarita Engagement: Nicole & Jesse

Tonight I get to share Nicole and Jesse’s sweet engagement session! These two are the sweetest and I loved photographing them in one of my favorite Santa Clarita locations.

Nicole and Jesse met while in college at Cal State University, Northridge and got engaged in 2014. When I met with the two of them to talk wedding photography details they told me that one of their favorite things to do was vacation in Colorado. Considering that I think Colorado is pretty cool and have always wanted to visit I knew they had to be great people. 🙂

They were nothing short of easy going during their engagement session. We explored around the area a little and had a great time finding good spots to stop and take photos. It was such a perfect day with a cooler temperature but not too cold. It was just right! We didn’t have to swat bugs away the whole time either and considering that is not always the case at the spot we were photographing, I was very excited about that.

Just about every couple I have the privilege of photographing is not used to being in front of the camera so when it comes time for the engagement session people aren’t sure how comfortable they’ll be when I stick my camera in their face. Towards the end of Nicole and Jesse’s session Jesse commented on how fun and easy it was. Being able to set people’s nerves at ease and help them to relax and have fun is always one of my goals. I’m so glad that these two felt exactly that way during their engagement session, the pictures always come out better when a couple is able to feel comfortable and have fun.

I am so very happy for you Nicole and Jesse! I can’t wait for your ranch wedding this June! -Megan

Santa Clarita Engagement: Stephanie & Patrick

I had such a great time with these two at their engagement session in Placerita Canyon and enjoyed getting to know them a little better. They are such a good looking couple and so freaking cute together!

Stephanie & Patrick grew up living on the same street but didn’t go to the same schools so they never ended up ever being around one another. Later on in life they ended up working together at the same restaurant. They started dating in 2010 and have continued dating since then and even long distance at times. This January Patrick got down on one knee on the beach in Malibu just before sunset and proposed to Stephanie. They are now planning their summer 2015 wedding at Camarillo Ranch and I can’t wait to get some more amazing photographs of these two on their wedding day!

For their engagement session we went to one of my favorite places to take pictures and this time of year it’s so pretty out there with all the green from the rain. It’s a little hike to get there but so worth it! I always find little pockets of light that are just perfection even with being a little hidden in the canyon. On the day of their session it was actually super cloudy but we did manage to get about a 30 second window where the sun peeked through the clouds for us. Living in Southern California where it’s sunny most of the time I was actually excited about the clouds and seeing the fog roll in. The mountains looked amazing all cushioned in fog. We took a few moody shots towards the end of their session using a couple strobes and I love how the mountains and fog appear in the background. I enjoyed taking a little extra time to get something a little different than I usually shoot. Thanks for stopping by to see Stephanie & Patrick’s engagement photos!

Amy & David: Santa Clarita Engagement

Amy and David met online then soon discovered that there was something special between the two of them. I get quite a few couples these days who’ve met online and every time I just think it’s so cool when they end up getting married. For Amy and David’s engagement session we headed out to a natural area in Santa Clarita. We went in a couple circles looking for each other in the beginning but at least we got a little exercise in. Ha! 🙂  So happy for the two of them getting engaged earlier this year and excited for their wedding this May!

Mentryville Engagement: Amanda & Dominic

mentryville engagement

Mentryville was the perfect location for Amanda & Dominic which makes sense because they actually chose it. I am a sucker for old buildings and could have spent the whole day just exploring the place. Mentryville is an old oil drilling town in Pico Canyon and it’s now considered a Ghost town. So cool! These two were seriously so fun photograph and I had such a great time with them! I loved Amanda’s outfit and Dominic’s green shoes added a fun little spark. Congrats you two!

Hillarie & Lance: Santa Clarita Engagement

Hillarie and Lance are high school sweethearts and grew up together being best friends. They were so young when they first met that they can’t actually remember it but Hillarie remembers thinking as a little girl that one day she would marry that boy named Lance. 🙂  For the proposal Lance had it all planned out and Hillarie had no idea what was going on. He planned a day for her and her friends to go to Disneyland but the whole time Hillarie thought it was an early 21st birthday gift for her and her friends from their parents. She and her friends had a fun morning and that afternoon had stopped in front of the castle to take pictures. At just the right time Hillarie turned around and Lance was standing there, then he took her hands and got down on one knee to propose. She was in shock! When he took the ring out of his pocket, that’s when Hillarie began to cry. He asked her to marry him and she nodded yes! A crowd had surrounded them during this time and began to clap and cheer for them with photographers snapping away at this big moment in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle!

I loved photographing the love between these two during their engagement session and couldn’t be more happy for the two of them. We had fun coming up with things to do and since Lance had taken a photography class he would sometimes comment on why he knew I had picked a location for the lighting or composition. One of my favorite things about  their session was just how evident it was that they were so happy just being together. I know God will use these two in ways they never imagined and  I can’t wait to photograph their wedding in June!
